“She heard the Gospel here and was anxious to get baptized as soon as possible. She said that she cannot continue her trip without being baptized and testifying her faith in Christ.”

Story from the Frontlines: Follow up with Refugees

Pastor Iosua explained, "In the last 10 days, we stayed in touch with all our guests that left our church. 60 of them arrived safely at their destination. We helped them with money, contacts, and every day discussed with them, and assured them of our prayers or help even if they were in other countries or cities. The others are still on their way to a final destination. So we don't only provide for them here, we are in contact with them all the way, because many are afraid, especially single ladies."

Story from the Frontlines: UKRAINIAN MEN STAYED BACK TO FIGHT

A family with 7 children left the war on foot and then they finally reached the border with the 7 children. When they wanted to pass the eldest child who had just turned 18, he was stopped and returned to go and fight, the other 6 children and parents were able to come to Romania, to our Church thanks to some believers who brought them by car from the Southern / Eastern border of Romania. They are very good people who sacrifice a lot to help the refugees to get to Bucharest and then to go further on into Europe. This family went by bus to Germany.

Three cars of Christian Ukrainian refugees (from the Baptist Church and the Messianic Church) started from the central city of Dnipro, Ukraine, a very developed city, right on the Dnieper River and quite close to the conflict zone. They decided to flee to Romania, taking very few things with them. It was a very difficult journey to travel among the shells fired by tanks and missiles, among the soldiers firing their weapons in all directions. They spent three days driving through very dangerous areas. Eventually, one of the men driving one of the cars, who had only two children with his wife, arrived at the border. They stopped him and turned him back to fight in the war. In total 17 people, including 9 children, 6 women and 2 men crossed the border. They went through hardships, but they found warmth, food and clothing and shoes, clean beds with new sheets, fluffy and clean pillows for them and the children.

Story from the Frontlines: THE NEEDS ARE GREAT!

Ukrainian Refugees on a bus at the Suceava, Romania / Ukraine border heading into Romania. March 17, 2022

Refugees keep crossing the border into our town, Suceava (Romania). Very old people, young mothers and very small children look for refuge away from Russian bombs.

Our churches are welcoming as many as we can. One family of 13 (11 children and parents) was on their way to us but their car broke down in the middle of the night. They were not able to speak Romanian but God sent some locals to them who took all of them in, fed them, offered a place to sleep and fixed their car.

In our own flat we currently are hosting Andrei, Iaroslava and their son, Maxim. Iaroslava had to return to Ukraine in order to finish some things before traveling again to us. We are also trying to help them apply for Romanian passports. While waiting for Iaroslava to come back Andrei travels to and from the border helping other refugees.

On Monday, we will arrange a space for refugee accommodation in the basement of the church. For that we will have to buy and install beds, mattresses, linen, shower cabins, a washing machine, a cooker, etc.

Story from the Frontlines: Vulnerable Women and Chiildren

Galați, Romania is very close to the Ukrainian and Moldovan border. Romania has become a hub for sheltering refugees. Both churches and citizens drive, in their own cars, to the borders with food, toys, water, hot drinks, blankets, toiletries, etc to offer to each person crossing over. Even a church from 6 hours north-west of the Eastern border, sent their Pastor there to help with translation and bring anyone willing to come to Romania.

There are many Ukrainian mothers and children traveling alone since their husbands/fathers were required to stay and fight. Please pray for the women refugees who are very vulnerable and in great danger at this time. There are always men who try to take advantage of this humanitarian crisis by offering to help the women while their intentions, in fact, are evil. Pray for divine protection and care for the mothers and their small children.
